Report by H M I received.

Reg no. P28/195/26         Inspected May 21 1947

This is a well conducted Infant School and it is pleasing to record that with the return to normal staffing conditions good progress is again being made.  The Head Mistress is to be congratulated on the happy atmosphere of the school and on the extremely friendly and natural behaviour of the children in her care.  With 187 on roll of her school, the head Mistress is herself responsible for the teaching of a small class and of groups which are withdrawn from other classes at different periods.  She has the loyal support of four earnest and conscientious teachers.

A determined effort has been made to run the Recetion class on Nurery lines and the daily routine includes purposeful play, social training and a rest period.  Unfortunately the limited toilet facilities restrict social training and the children rest in turns because many of the beds are in need of repair.  At alter stage formal work is suitably graded and apart from some slowness in the initial stages of reading, proceeds satisfactorily.

Children remain in the school until they have reached the age of eight years and in the highest class many of the children readwith fluency and understanding.  In composition and number also both the methods employed and the results obtained are to be commended.  No small part of the success of the teaching is due to the careful preparation of exercises and apparautus which the children take a delight in using.

Suitable physical activities are arranged for each class but special mention should be made of the spirit with which the older children enter into the maypole and other dances.  The playing of percussion instruments is at present restricted to one class only but no doubt as opportunities present themselves, the Head Mistress will allow otherclasses to share in this form of training.  From time to time open days and evenings are arranged to enable parents to see the children at work or to discuss their progress with the teachers.
