“The timetable should be re-arranged so that two noisy lessons should not proceed at the same time in adjoining classes.
Though better organisation is desirable the work on the whole is creditable.
More word building might be introduced with advantage, and the children should be encouraged to speak distinctly.
In teaching writing the due proportions of the letters should be carefully observed.
In singing by note the requirements of the Code are fairly satisfied, but improvement will be expected at the next visit”

“There has been a change of teachers during the year, but there has been a large increase in the numbers; the school is very much overcrowded and with the present weak staff it is impossible for the school to be efficiently conducted. The classes are too big for the teachers and the children are inattentive and the organisation defective. The intermediate grant under Article 98(b) of the Code is recommended with great hesitation and I shall look for a great improvement next year.”
E Brigstock has obtained a second class in the Queen’s Scholarship Examination.

“The children are making fairly creditable progress on the whole, but the premises are very inconvenient and the school is overcrowded and good organisation is difficult; plans however of a new school have been approved and building operations are to commence immediately. More word building is necessary in reading, and writing is uneven.
The second class did best in number.

Report of School
“The average attendance has again exceeded the accommodation but as a new building is in course of erection it is not necessary to comment on the present overcrowding. There have been several changes in the personnel of the staff during the year and the conditions of Article 73 of the Code are sometimes violated. Taking all drawbacks into consideration much creditable work has been done. The Needlework is very good, the Object lessons are well given but the varied Occupations in the lower classes require more direct and complete control.”
The accommodation of the Mixed and Infants Departments is at present insufficient for the average attendance. This should be at once remedied or the grant next year will be endangered (Article 55(a) of the Code). The additional accommodation in respect of which a loan has already been sanctioned by the Department should be provided as soon as possible.
|
|
Ruth Brown is continued under Article 33, but is not qualified by age for admission under Article 35.
The certificate of Miss Denby will be issued after 10th April 1900 upon the application of the Board if she continues in the school till that date.
