Rushden Echo, 16th January 1925, transcribed by Kay Collins
Rushden Garage Saved From Fire
Lighted Petrol in ’Bus

What might have been a very serious fire was narrowly averted at the Wargate Motor Works, Wellingborough-road, Rushden, on Tuesday at 1p.m. Within five minutes of receiving the call, the Rushden Fire Brigade, turned out, with the motor tender towing the steamer, under Captain R F Knight and Second Officer W Packwood.

A can of petrol in a motor-car from Raunds garaged in the yard at the rear had somehow become ignited, and the driver had thrown the can and its contents out of the ’bus into the yard. It struck the corner of the garage and set it on fire.

The flames were, however, very quickly extinguished, and the garage, well stocked with expensive cars, saved from damage.
