Rushden Echo and Argus, Friday 27th April 1934, transcribed by Susan Manton
Midnight Fire

Danger to two houses Nos. 26 and 28 Washbrook Road was averted by the Rushden Fire Brigade on Monday night.

A foster mother apparatus for hatching eggs caught fire in a brick building at the back of Mr. S. A. Valentine’s residence no. 26 and the flames after destroying the roof, spread to the roof of the adjoining outbuildings – those of Mr. H. A. Coles.

Called at 12.31am the brigade arrived in five minutes with Mr. R. F. Knight in charge. The water pump was taken out but water bled direct from a hydrant proved sufficient and in an hour all danger was relieved.
