Rushden Echo & Argus, 18th September 1942, transcribed by Kay Collins
Fire at Hall

Rushden Hall, the old mansion now belonging to the Urban Council, was in some danger as darkness fell on Tuesday evening. A bad chimney fire broke out, and it was necessary to call the N.F.S. A unit dispatched under Section Leader Green scaled the uneven roof by means of ladders placed from ridge to ridge, and water was poured down the chimney, the stack swaying under the weight of the firemen. It was a quick and successful job, but the N.F.S. men, who had been joined by Company Officer Timpson, stayed for an extra half-hour to make sure that the old timbering was safe.
