The Rushden Echo and Argus, 21st February, 1930, transcribed by Jim Hollis.
Mill House Fire

A serious blaze was narrowly averted about 5.15 p.m. on Monday, when the old mill-house in Glassbrook-road, Rushden, caught fire. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wiggins, who live at the house, detected fire, and found that the bedroom at the back of the house was alight, and they immediately raised the alarm. The Rushden Fire Brigade received a call at 5.20 and were out in four minutes with the motor pump and tender. It was found necessary to use only the “first-aid” tank on the pump, and the outbreak was soon quelled. The chimney for the fire-place in the room below is connected with the bedroom grate, and when the former fired, burning soot fell into the bedroom, thereby igniting the mantel-piece and partly burning a bedstead. A beam was also alight.
