Rushden Argus, 2nd October, 1914, transcribed by John Collins
Mr Hardy’s house

Fire—A very serious conflagration was averted on Monday night in Rushden by the promptitude of Mr Peacock, of 90 Glassbrook-road, Rushden. It appears that Mr Peacock and his wife were returning from a place of amusement when the former noticed a fire along the Wellingborough-road. He made investigations and found a great blaze at the rear of Mr Hardy’s house, No. 168 Wellingborough-road. A heap of paper was well alight, and a coachhouse of wood and trellis work was also aflame. He called up Mr Hardy, and the three worked with buckets of water for about half an hour before the outbreak was extinguished.
