Rushden Echo, 20th December 1918, transcribed by Kay Collins
Messrs. Durham and Catling

Fire broke out in a shed on the premises of Messrs. Durham and Catling, leather factors, Duck-street, yesterday week, in the late evening. Neighbours noticed leather bits in flames and made praiseworthy efforts to extinguish the fire by means of buckets of water. Rushden Fire Brigade was also sent for, and the following who were quickly on the scene with equipment, soon put the fire out: Second Officer G. R. Turner, Engineer C. Green, Firemen J. Whiting, L. Britchford, H. Payne, J. Wooding, and A. Jaques. The damage (about 8 or 10 tons of leather bits destroyed) was covered by insurance.
