Rushden Argus, Friday Dec 27th 1889, Notes of the Week, Transcribed by Kay Collins
Fire at Mr Callaway's

What would have been a serious fire but for timely succour took place at Mr. Callaway's shop on Christmas Eve.

It appears Mr. Callaway was lighting up his show window, which had been decorated for Christmas, when the wind blew the flame of the taper on to the inflammable materials, the whole being soon in a blaze.
