Mr. H. Boswell's shed

Rushden Echo, 10th December 1920, transcribed by Kay Collins

WYMINGTON - FIRE broke out on Friday about 9pm. in a wooden shed on the New Estate, Wymington, belonging to Mr. H. Boswell, of Rushden. The shed is not many yards from a row of wooden dwellings (converted Army huts), and the out-break might easily have proved very uncomfortable, if not disastrous for the two families in the huts. Luckily, however, one of the residents of New Wymington happened to pass before the fire had got a very firm hold. He broke into the shed, dashed water on to the floor, much of the flooring being burnt, and then called assistance of neighbours. A plentiful supply of water was thrown on the fire. Meantime, Rushden Fire Brigade were summoned, but as the fire in Mr. Boswell's shed was extinguished, another messenger was sent to cancel the summons. The shed had been used as a workshop for upper closing. The machines did not get seriously damaged, but a large part of the flooring was burnt away, outbreak is a mystery, as it is said that no one had been inside the shed for a week. The damage is covered by insurance.
