Rushden Echo 30th September 1921, transcribed by Susan Manton

A presentation was made last evening by the Rushden and Higham Ferrers Water Board to Mr. W. Sprott for 10 years engineer and manager of the Sywell Waterworks and now in a similar position at Great Yarmouth. The Chairman (Ald. T. Patenall J.P.) entertained the Board and officials to tea in the Board Room after which he handed to Mr. Sprott on behalf of the company a handsome inscribed aneroid barometer. Ald. Patenall thanked Mr. Sprott and expressed the Board’s appreciation of past services and good wishes for the future. Mr. J. Spencer J.P. and Mr. F. Knight J.P. also spoke. In response, Mr. Sprott offered his sincere thanks and wished Mr. W. Halford (the new manager) success, hoping Mr. Halford would have as happy relations with the Board as he had (Applause). Mr. Halford said he would do his best to carry on the work in the excellent manner that had characterised Mr. Sprott’s duties. (Applause.)

Water Board Outing—The annual outing of members and officials of the Rushden and Higham Water Board was held on Monday afternoon. Travelling in a charabanc supplied by Mr Bert Scroxton, the party had a pleasant run to Sywell, where an inspection of the reservoir and plant was made. Everything was found to be in excellent condition, the reservoir being nearly full. Mr T Willmott (chairman) entertained to company to tea, and after a little fishing the return journey was begun, Rushden being reached at 8.p.m.
