At the end of 1900 or early in 1901 Porter Brant Smith had brought his wife Ebbie, son William and daughter Gladys, from Wisbech, CAM, to live here, and he began trading as a hairdresser.

Sadly he died in 1912, and his wife sold the business.

Rushden Echo June 1912 - Sale

Mr Leonard Vivian Holyoake was trading here by 1914, and he sold the business to Oliver Cooke in 1920:

THE BUSINESS of Mr. L. V. Holyoak, Hairdresser, Tobacconist, etc. of Wellingborough-Road, Rushden (corner of Pemberton-street), has been taken over by Mr. Oliver Cooke, who some years ago carried on a similar business in Newton-road, Rushden, where he had many friends. Old acquaintances and new customers will be cordially welcomed at the new establishment.

By 1924 the business was taken over by Hedley Toms who had left by 1935.

In the 1950s it became a taxi office.
