John Sherwood and his wife Alice (nee Robinson) were married in 1897 and living at 6 Winchester Road in 1901, with one child, Emma aged 2.

John was working in the shoetrade, but by 1910 they had moved to 92 Portland Road, a corner shop. Here he traded as a fruiterer and confectioner.

The photo dates to 1929 and shows their daughter Winfred who was then 18 years old.

They traded here until about 1935.
