Ravensden Farm

Chronicle & Echo, 17th June 1966

Llama on the loose—at  Rushden

A SEARCH was still going on today for a llama on the loose on the outskirts of Rushden. It escaped four days ago and all efforts so far to trap it have failed.

The animal got away from Ravensden Farm, Bedford-road, from which Mr. Norman Howard supplies animals to zoos.

Today Mr. Howard who put the value of the llama at about £200, said that he thought it had been born in this country (the llama is a native of South America). "I have not seen his pedigree."

Mr. Howard said the animal leapt out from a space about two feet wide when it was being delivered from a horsebox.

He is hoping to have the help of a troop of Scouts in recapturing the animal.

The llama is believed to be on land at Higham Park, farmed by Mr. W. G. Holt, who said the animal had not been seen this morning. Barley now growing to two feet high in the area provided considerable cover.

It would also provide food and the llama could get water readily.

The fields are very large in this area without many hedges and the llama could virtually roam 2,000 acres, thought Mr. Holt. It was evidently "very much at home."
