William Ewert Irelands

Has been in my employ for about Four and half years and I have always found him to be a very Straightforward Honest and industrious you[ng] man

has worked for me going on for five years and I can well recommend him as a very good painter indeed and an Excellent Writer.

The second note says he was an 'excellent writer' - signwriting shop fronts.

Walter Mole was born in 1864 at Carlton BDF. He married Sarah A Elson (born Harrold BDF) in 1865. They were married in 1888.

Their son, Charles W was born at Harrold in 1889, his sister Mabel was born at Rushden in 1891, Florence was born at Harrold in 1893, and Gladys in 1900 at Rushden.

They lived at 34 Station Road in 1901, until 1916 when they moved to 71 Midland Road. The following year he was bankrupt. He also suffered with brochitis.

Walter died aged 63, and was buried in Rushden Cemetery Grave E 1211 on 7th June 1928.

Sarah Mole had learnt lacemaking at Harrold where she lived before she was married, and was still working lace at the grand age of 86.

Sarah died in 1955 aged 89 and was buried on 19th May alongside her husband.
