H W Jackson
Florist & seedsman - 76 High Street

No 86 High Street shortly before it was demolished.
H Jackson took over Seckington's Seeds and Nursery.

George A McLeod, watchmaker and jeweller, came from Birmingham, and was the tenant from 1903 - 1910, then it was Meadow Bros, hairdressers (for a short time). J F Nix, watchmaker had moved in by 1914, and he was followed by H W Jackson who took over the shop, at 76 High Street, about 1930.

Mr Jackson was well known in the High Street and continued into the 1970s. Below is a list from 1949, showing the broad range of bulbs he offered, along with cut flowers and packets of seed. He was also willing fill the customers' pots or bowls for them.

Extract from 1000 Years of Rushden August 1956:

A resident of Rushden since 1900 and for many years proprietress of the High Street sweet shop “The Chocolate Box”, Mrs Frances Tomlinson, died aged 84.

Mrs Tomlinson's shop at 88-90 High Street and was listed in Kelly's Directory 1940.

The land behind had been Jonathan Seckington's nursery ground and his shop was at 86 High Street. Mr Jackson took over the nursery land with the shed already erected by Mr Seckington or his son.
