Ellis - Joseph - Haigh
127 High Street, 125 High Street, 125 & 127 High Street

Haigh & Co Bazaar
George Ellis was born at Oxford in 1868, and he married Kate (nee Draper, of Northampton), in 1897. They moved to Rushden, and took a shop at 127 High Street, where George carried on the business as an upholsterer, and he soon began selling furntiure as well. They had two daughters, Marjory Kate born Rushden 1903, and Eileen Violet born in 1909 at Oxford.

Rushden Echo, 28th February 1908

Removal—Mr. W. Joseph has taken over entirely the business of Messrs. George Ellis and Co., and on Monday next will remove to the shop next door—125 High-street, carrying on the business of house furnishing and upholstering as heretofore. We understand that one of Mr. Joseph’s specialities will be window blinds of all description.

In 1920 Thomas Day, stationer, was trading at 125 High Street, and Fred Sutton, hairdresser, was at 127.
The picture above is taken from a c1928 postcard, shows 127 High Street with a name board "Haigh & Co's Bazaar" and at 129 is Tailby & Putnam's grocery store.
