Duck Street Shops
At 48 Duck Street in 1914-20 Thomas Gostick Jervis was a hairdresser. The Misses Minnie and Violet Chettle ran it as a sweet shop in the 1920s, and in 1930 they sold the business to Bert Wells. Bert then sold the business to Sydney Tilley in about 1936. Sometime before 1953 V H Partridge became proprietor.

Rushden Echo and Argus, 9th October 1953

This was how a saloon car finished a runaway trip without its driver. At Rushden on Monday morning the car was parked outside the British Legion Hall in steep Fitzwilliam Street. It ran forward into Mr V H Partridge’s shop in Duck Street, sending apples, oranges and other goods scattering as it crashed into the stonework.
