The Meeting
The Official Receiver (Mr. A. Ewen) presided this afternoon over a small attendance of creditors, and Mr. A. C. Palmer, of Northampton, was also present.
Mr. Ewen stated that 105 proofs of debts had been lodged, and there was no doubt it was the wish of the creditors that Mr. Palmer should be appointed trustee, with a Committee of Inspection. The largest creditors were Messrs. Nelson and Co., of Manchester, for £1,505. Mr. Palmer had been appointed special manager, applications having been made to him and supported by creditors for over £19,000. It was considered absolutely necessary in his (Mr. Ewen’s) opinion and that of other creditors that the various businesses should not be shut down, especially having regard to the contracts with the Government, which, if they were not gone on with, might have led to heavy claims for damages. The businesses that were going on were :-
B. Denton and Sons, shoe manufacturers.
F. Noble, Moor-road.
The Joinery Works.
The Lightstrung Cycle Co.
The Receiver then, on behalf of various creditors for whom he held proxies, moved that the debtor be adjudged a bankrupt, and that he (Mr. Ewen) be empowered to apply to the Court to make the adjudication.
This was carried, and the meeting then appointed Mr. A.C. Palmer trustee, with a Committee of Inspection.
The meeting then closed.
