Facing Wood Street at 2 Market Square the shop far right was kept by Henry James Gadd, a hairdresser and tobacconist, in the early 1900s. After WWII it was Mr Bird's newsagents.
John Coleman worked with Mr Bird, and eventually took over.
Later he expanded by taking over several other businesses.

The Rushden shop was closed, the Higham shop moved down into High Street and another branch opened at Oundle. A craft shop and warehouse is the latest venture at Crown Park, Rushden, where craft workshops are well attended.
