A new Coffee Tavern
The Coffee Tavern
The new Coffee Tavern
The original Coffee Tavern opened in 1882 in High Street, and was later re-named the Waverley Hotel, and that was demolished in 1959.

In the 1980s a new coffee house was opened in this building, in what had become known as Coffee Tavern Place, being opposite Coffee Tavern Lane. It was very popular for morning coffee, light lunches and afternoon tea. All the food was home made and used the finest ingredients and offered the healthy option.

In 2007 they left this building and moved into the Peter Crisp store.

Mind Charity moved into this building as they had out grown their original premises at 6 Alfred Street - just across the yard from the red car in the above picture. But following a disastrous fire in 2008, the building has been refurbished and is now used by "Evolve" training.

'Mind' moved to the old C.Y.A. building in Skinners Hill and renamed the building "Phoenix House."

The fire in 2008. The (new) Coffee Tavern had moved into Peter Crisp's store, and MIND charity took the premises.
