Leonard S Cherry

Leonard S Cherry's shop
Leonard S Cherry's Decorator Supplies shop at 102 Wellingborough Road

The proprietors were L S & M Cherry, agents for "all leading brands of quality paints" and they sold eveything for the home decorator as well as supplying to tradesmen.

From 1951 to 1956 his daughter Jill tells us that she had to write up the books into a large ledger on two evenings a week. She also typed up customers' invoices, and dealt with the orders and invoices coming in. Jill found it a chore, but her father said it was "character building!"

This note is written at the end of the ledger book:
On September 30th Terminated all outside undertakings – and on Monday October 1st 1956 All Business was ceased on its retail shop – 102 Wellingboro Rd – And all further Cash and Bank entries are recorded in the ‘Simpler’ Book – carrying on W.E.F. this date. No Further outside Labour, or employees are employed; Eddy, Watts, & Mr. Martin Terminating Sept. 30th. Mrs Cherry is being retained for afternoon work at the shop at a nominal wage.

The shop at 102 closed on 30th September 1956 and the new 'retail only' store at 104 opened the following day.
