Percy Button was born in London, and he married Emma Read in 1902, in East Suffolk. A son Reginald was born in Suffolk in 1903, and then they moved to live at Rushden, where they had two more children; Norman in 1906 and Stanley in 1910.
A drapers shop at 93 High Street South, formerly kept by Stephen Higgins and his wife Annie, was taken over by Percy F Button in about 1905. They had moved to 46 High Street by 1908.

Number 46 High Street was the office for the Registrar of births and deaths, and relieving officer (George Robert Turner) in 1914.
Percy was aboard a ship during WWI, as a wireless telegraphist, and did not return to his Rushden shop.
