82 Higham Road Beerhouse
Phipps & Co

beerhouse in Higham Road
Phipps' beerhouse in Higham Road - c1890
82 Higham Road - demolished in 1962

This row of cottages stood next to the Trade Club in Higham Road, and was in front of another row called Sussex Place. The first cottage was a beerhouse, and the poster in the window is for Bulmer's Cider.

George Wyatt was the beer retailer in 1900.

1903-06 lists Len Astles as the licence holder.

In 1910 it was in the tenure of George Dickenson and he stayed until about 1932.

Howard Vernon was the next licence holder.

By 1965 B K Jones was running a general store here.

The row was demolished in 1962, and some 'modern' dwellings replaced them.
