George F J Baker - cattle dealer

Reginald Baker was born at Barnwell Mill, and in 1911 he was living at Grendon, boarding with Harry Mortimer. Reg was a general dealer, and in 1913 he married Mary E (nee Smith).

Their son, George F J Baker was born in 1920. His mother died aged 59 in 1940 when George was just 20, and she was buried in grave DB54 in Rushden Cemetery. Reginald died in 1954 aged 74, and he was buried in grave DB53.

George Baker lived at "The Limes," 23 High Street South.
He was a cattle dealer, and attended the local cattle markets:

Sunday - London
Monday - Cambridge
Tuesday - Melton Mowbray
Wednesday - Uttoxeter
Thursday - Ashton
Friday - Derby

George fattened the cattle and then sent them to market at Banbury, Northampton or Thrapston. He moved to Bass's Barn next to Rectory Farm, in Newton Road, where he built a bungalow. He later bought a Leyland Comet truck to transport the cattle to market.

George died in 1991 aged 70 and was buried in the same grave as his mother. He is recorded on the Memorial Walls.
