Salvation Army - 2009

The Charity Shop is always busy. People drop off any unwanted goods, clothes and furniture, then volunteers sort and price items and put them on display in the shop. A steady stream of visitors call in on a regular basis to see what they can find.

The shop raises funds to enable their world wide social works to carry on.

The 'Hearts & Soles' project found a suitcase, just the right size to transport their scanner to and from meetings, in this shop!
The charity shop

In 1985 Don Wills retired, and sold his garage business Palace Motors, which he'd kept in the old Palace cinema premises, and the property was sold. The vehicle sales moved to John Street where it continued as Palace Motors but it was later taken over and is now owned by Rockingham Motors.

The old Palace was rented by the Salvation Army's Charity Shop as a furniture showroom for a time, and it was then redeveloped into flats by the owner. The Charity Shop moved into 20 Church Street, formerly the Peter Crisp Ltd kitchen shop.

The newly refurbished cafe advertises "all home made and cooked to order" on their new menu.
