In 1969 Frank Caswell sold his carpet and furniture business to Tom Calland and Alf Holtom in 1969, on condition that Alan Benning (his long serving salesman) was made a director. With the continuity that Alan was still there to advise their regular customers, the business thrived.
In 1997, sadly Mr Calland died, and his son Paul, who had been working in the shop for some time, took over his father's place in the business.
When they closed for the Christmas break in December 2008 they were preparing for their final sale and in April 2009 Paul closed down the shop.
In July 2009 Paul has opened a new business as Calland's Warehouse on the Sanders Lodge Industrial Estate. The stock is not only furniture, but also electrical goods.
