In 1891 James Gilbert was living in High Street with his son William, and they were general dealers. They had a boarder, Elizabeth Rice, a married lady who worked as a domestic servant. Perhaps she was their housekeeper, as later in the year James and Elizabeth were married.

James and Elizabeth Gilbert were in Wellingborough Road in 1898, where James traded as a general dealer.

In 1901 James and Elizabeth Gilbert, were living at 17 High Street South and trading as wardrobe dealers. He was aged 76 and had been lame for 11 years, and his wife was aged 52.

By 1906 the shop was kept by Jesse and Elizabeth Partridge, and in 1914 Elizabeth is widowed but still dealing in wardrobes.

By 1920 no further trace of the shop is found.
