Rushden Echo, 2nd November 1917, transcribed by Kay Collins
Concert

A Fine Concert was given in the Wellingborough-road Mission Hall on Monday evening in aid of the Rushden Mission Old Boys’ Christmas Gift Fund, which is to provide Christmas comforts for over 250 men and lads formerly connected with the Mission who are serving with the Colours. The hall was well filled, and all the artistes acquitted themselves admirably.

Songs were given by Madame Edwards, Miss Evelyn Harlow, Mr. Chas. Bailey, and Mr. J. Shatford, duets by the Misses D. James and E. West, recitations by Mollie Battersby, and monologues by Mr. Gordon Pitchford. Much amusement was caused by the sketch "The man fro’ Podington", presented by the Mission Sketch Party, viz., Messrs J. Greaves, J. Pogson, and Ern Bandey, Mrs. S. Cave, Miss A. Johnson, and Miss I. Warren. Councillor J. S. Clipson presided and Miss May Percival, A.L.C.M., accompanied at the piano. Over £17 was raised.

The chairman thanked the audience for their support, and moved a vote of thanks to the artistes. He stated that the whole of the cost had been borne by the committee, so that the proceeds go to the funds, without any deduction for tax.
