As Sunday was so near Christmas Day, and also the last Sunday of the year, the services at the various places of worship in Rushden, especially in the evening, were made of a special character.

At the Park-road Wesleyan Church the service was conducted by the Rev.R.B.Woodward, a good congregation being present. Mr.Woodward dealt with the ideal character as exhibited in the Apostle John, "the disciple whom Jesus loved," and pointe dout how, in all men, there were latent capacities and powers that were only developed as they came into contact with Christ and learnt obedience to Him. The measure of success, both in Christians and churches, was the measure of their obedience to Christ's influence. The choir gave the chorus, "And the glory of the Lord," and a solo, "The sign of the Cross," was given by Miss Thornton, Wellingborough.
