Yesterday the annual treat to the scholars attending the Parish Church and St.Peter’s was held in beautiful weather. The scholars numbering 700, assembled at 2pm at the National Schools, where a procession was formed, the Infants taking the lead. The Higham Ferrers Prize Silver Band came next and the older scholars brought up the rear. The young people, who were accompanied by their teachers, marched round the Hall grounds, and up the High Street to the Rectory field. The vast procession of children was an imposing sight, their pretty dresses and banners and bannerets swaying gracefully in the breeze.
A special feature of the procession was the new banner of St. Peter’s Sunday School, which was purchased by the scholars and bore the name of the Sunday School with the cross keys in the centre and small Maltese cross at the bottom. Tea was served in the Rectory field, an event which was heartily welcomed by the young folk, and needless to say ample justice was done to the repast. A public tea was held at 4.30, a good number sitting down. Miss Cox, of the Coffee Tavern, did the catering in her usual able manner. After tea sports were held, the arrangements being carried out by:- the Rector (the Rev. W.R. Morse), the Rev. J.K. Fry, Messrs. Allcock, A.G.C. Vann, J. Wright and Whittington, Miss Packwood, and Miss Howard.
Prizes were offered to the competitors according to age.

Perhaps the most interesting event of the day was the teacher’s race. The excitement waxed hot as the competitors neared the tape. After a good race the Rector won easily. Mr. Miller came second and Mr. Allcock third, the Revs J.R. Blunt and J.K. Fry, Mr. Vann and others filing to find a place. After the sports were over the prizes were distributed by Miss Sartoris on the lawn. Thanks are due to Miss Sartoris for her kindly interest, and to all who helped to bring the treat to such a successful issue. The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing to the sweet strains of the Higham Town Band.
