The Succoth Fig

The fig tree was rescued from the demolition site in 1969.
Figs on the tree in spring 2007
Growing out of a crack in the masonry of the Succoth Chapel, in the High Street, Rushden, was a fig tree!
When the building was being demolished in 1969 I asked if this miserable plant could be saved.
A bruised and battered “twig” was given to me. Planted and tended with care it has grown
into a splendid tree producing many figs. The chapel has gone but the fig lives on!
