St. Mary's Church - Confirmations
In the snow
In the snow c1981

Wellingborough News, 17th May 1884, transcribed by Kay Collins

CONFIRMATION—Upwards of 70 young persons from the parishes of Irthlingborough, Higham Ferrers, Newton Bromswold, and Rushden, were confirmed in the Parish Church, on Tuesday, by assistant Bishop Mitchinson. A number of the friends of the candidates and the parishioners of Rushden attended the service. The address of the Bishop giving a history of confirmation from the times of the Apostles, together with its meaning and value, was listened to with great attention. The hymns were sung with much earnestness of feeling by the candidates, whose behaviour was exceedingly reverent and devout. A service was held in the afternoon in the Church, which was well attended. Addresses were given by the Rev. Canon Barker, and the Rev. T. Grabham, (Irthlingborough), on the responsibilities connected with the rite. The Irthlingborough candidates, who with the Newton Bromshold candidates had partaken of a capital lunch at the coffee tavern, returned home at the close of the service. The Rushden candidates remained to tea in the Infant School, about 50 being present, after which a pleasant evening was spent in the Rectory Grounds, kindly opened to them by the Rector.
