From the Bishop of Peterborough

My Dear Vicar,

I am much encouraged to learn that St. Peter's is to launch its renewal Campaign for Christian Stewardship in the near future.

The Bishop of peterboroughThis is clear evidence of the desire of your lay people to keep clearly before all parishioners the full implications of their Christian calling and themselves to take an active part in what is, in fact, a renewed evangelistic project.

May this endeavour be richly fruitful in service and sacrifice for the works of god.

Be assured of my prayers.

Looking Backward

Three years ago members of the family of St. Peter's were asked to take a greater share in the life of the parish. Many responded in an excellent manner. Thank God for this.

The following requirements were listed in 1961. In each case it is stated what has been done in the three years.

1.

If you feel that you can serve God in some of the many activities of the Church, in addition to giving money, please ask the visitor to inform the Vicar.

This was done in a number of cases and help in countless ways has resulted.

2.

Maintenance of our Churches, St. Peter's and St. Mark's, and the Church buildings. This includes heating, lighting, repairs.

This has been done and the buildings are in a good state of repair.

3.

Contributions to the Missionary Work of the Church Overseas.

During the past three years £670 has been given, compared with £370 in the previous three years.

4.

Contributions to the work of the Diocese.

During the past three years £1038 has been given, compared with £738 in the previous three years.

5.

Contributions to Home Missions.

£193, compared with £109 in the previous three years.

6. Special Needs.
(a)

£1,900 to pay for the house bought for the Curate.

Towards this cost £500 has been paid.

(b)

New wall and improvements to the surroundings of St. Mark's Church.

Completed at a cost of £346.

(c)

Funds sufficient to meet the salary of a Lady Worker.

A Deaconess was on the Staff for two years.

(d) New chairs and hymn books and prayer books have been bought at a cost of £110.
(e)

Extension to the Church Room.

This has not been done but the kitchen has been remodelled and modernised at a cost of £311.

(f) Extension to Clergy and Choir Vestry. This has not been done.

STEWARDSHIP PRAYER

O GOD, our Father, help us who are called to be thy family in this Diocese, to honour thee with such holy worship, to serve thee with such unselfish love, and to give so generously of our time, abilities and money for the building of thy Kingdom, that we may fulfil our calling to make known thy truth, and convey thy life to others; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

From the Vicar - W Gordon Muir

Dear Friends,

These three years, since our first Stewardship Campaign, have passed very quickly and my first thought is one of very real gratitude to all those who are serving God and the Church in so many different ways, both at St. Peter's and St. Mark's.

Rev MuirThere must be more than one hundred people doing various things within the Fellowship and Family of the parish. The tasks vary from teaching the young to visiting the old and all that goes between.

The management or stewardship of time, ability and money that God has given us to manage for Him becomes more exciting as we look back. So one page of the brochure is devoted to looking back on what has been achieved. I hope that this page will encourage others to join and with those who joined before to go on with renewed zeal. In this way we shall share new tasks together.

The page entitled looking forward is a challenge to us all in every way. The estimated sum seems a lot of money but not too much for such a large family to give. God will never fail us and if we all pull together we shall not fail Him.

Quite obviously the two main purposes of a Stewardship Campaign are to thank God for His goodness and love to each one of us and to dedicate ourselves anew to His service.

Some of the suggested ways and means whereby God can be served in the fellowship of the Church have been used fully but there are other ways which have not yet been fully taken up. Now and in the coming days the following are particularly required.

1. Teachers in the Sunday Schools, particularly at St. Mark's. Not only young people but older and more experienced Christians.
2. Street "Advisors " or " Wardens." Fifty are needed. The work will be to tell the clergy about:-
(a) Those who are sick in the street and would like the clergy to call.
(b) People moving away and new people coming in.
(c) Children who are not attending any Sunday School.
3. These and other ways of serving God are listed on a separate sheet enclosed in this brochure.
4. To meet our obligations to the Church Overseas, Home Missions, the Diocese, and to meet our own requirements in the parish. £65 PER WEEK IS NEEDED.

Please remember that costs have increased during the past 3 years.
