A Rushden Boy’s Life Saving Diploma to be Awarded
A Rushden boy’s presence of mind in rescuing a comrade from otherwise inevitable drowning, has been acknowledged by high authorities and a suitable award is to be made. The announcement was made on Sunday morning at the Park-road Baptist Church on the occasion of the usual monthly parade service of the Baptist Girls’ Life Brigade and the Boy’s Brigade, by the Company Chaplain, the Rev. J. A. Sutherland.
Mr. Sutherland read a letter from the Executive of the Brigade in London, stating that Private Bruce Lack had been granted a diploma for his gallant conduct and excellent services rendered to a boy at Skegness last August, holding him up and preventing him drowning. The report of the Executive highly congratulated young Lack, highly commended two boys named Denton and Burditt, of another company, for their assistance, and wished the Rushden Company success during the coming session.
