There being two little Houses with the [yard garden] Orchard and all the premises thereto belong, situate lying and being next to the Meeting House: thro’ which said premises we had the liberty of Ingress Egress and Regress to the said meeting house which said Estate was now upon sale 1777. And lest by any Change that might hereby take place, we Should be by any means interrupted in our passage to the meeting house It was proposed by some as the most expedient method to prevent futer trouble; to purchase the said houses and their Appurtenances, and to connect the same to the Meeting House, for the sole use and benefit of the Church and Congregation, that from time to time Statedly meet together for the religious worship and Service of God at the said Meeting place. Therefore after some deliberate consultation it was agreed upon by the Church of Christ under the Pastoral care of Mr Wm Knowles meeting in Rushden: to attempt to raise among themselves, and the rest of the congregation, well wishers to the cause; a sum of money in order for to purchase the premises aforesaid: and also with the design and intent that the said estate with the rights members and appurtenances there to belonging; should be transfered and settled wholly and solely upon the Church of Christ, who now have entered into a Covenant engagement one with another, to walk together in a visible Church state, in order to maintain the pure worship of God, and the ordinances of his House; according to the articles of their Covenant, which is to be seen in this Book And not only to the present members of this Church, but also to the Sole Use and behoofe of them and there successors, who may from time to time and at all times to come; be brought to join in fellowship with them according to the rules of God’s word and articles specified in the fore-cited Covenant It was likewise proposed and designed that the aforesaid dwelling House should be made fit for and appointed as a place of Residence (if occasion was) for such person or persons as the members of this Church shall from time to time Unanimously Chuse and appoint to administer the word and ordinances among them and likewise that some part of the premises should be allotted as a Burial place: and other necessary uses for the Conveniencey of the Said Society of Protestant Dissenters who do, or may Statedly meet and Assemble together for the religious worship and Service of God And in [order] to accomplish our Intentions and designs as before mentioned, we proposed to attempt to raise a sum of money for the purchasing the aforesaid Premises, by a free and voluntary subscription among ourselves as a Church, according to our several abilities: And the rest of the Congregation and assembly also as welwishers to the cause, readily and willingly concurring with us in this our undertaking, as we hope with a view to the futer good and benefit of the cause of Christ, for generations yet to come And accordingly We whose names are under-written have each of us, Separately and severally subscribed the following sums.
