This Society was formed about the year 1849. With but few members, and at great difficulty, a Sunday School was at once instituted. For many years the Gospel of God's lore was preached, and the letter as well as the spirit of the Old Book was taught on the Sabbath. The scholars were also instructed in secular subjects on week-day evenings. Thrift and provident habits were fostered by the establishment of a Penny Savings Bank, while Temperance and Total Abstinence from intoxicants was constantly encouraged. Many now living are able to testify to the benefits derived from adopting and living the truths thus taught in past years.

The number of scholars and members steadily increased, and the present building, which was erected in 1873, has done good service, but through the large increase in the number of those attending both School and Sanctuary, the accommodation is now altogether inadequate for actual requirements.

The Sunday School now numbers 400 scholars, and its efficiency is most seriously affected for want of suitable premises. Rushden has a large and rapidly increasing population, and to meet the urgent and immediate necessities, it has been decided to enlarge the present building and to erect new and commodious School and Class-rooms to accommodate 500 scholars, on land which has been secured in close proximity to the present Chapel.

This will involve an expenditure of about £1,500, of which some £400 has already been collected or promised. Arrangements are now in progress for holding at Easter next a

for the Sale of Useful and Ornamental Articles, the proceeds of which will be applied to the Building Fund.

It is with confidence that an appeal is now made for the assistance of those who have the means and disposition to assist in an unselfish Christian work.
