Rushden Independent Wesleyan Church
Centenary of the Sunday School
1848 - 1948

OTHER RECORDS

A direct descendant of one of the ten original scholars is Mrs Clark, of “Heatherbreea,” Rushden.

During the years 14 descendants of the founder have served the school as officers or teachers.

For 35 years scholars and teachers have contributed to the Christmas Fund of the East London Mission.

From June, 1923, to June, 1947, the amount contributed and presented by classes, teachers and officers during the afternoon Anniversary services totalled £565/2/5.

A very pleasing custom for over 60 years has been the presentation to teachers, on the occasion of their marriage, of a gift, usually taking the form of a silver teapot.  Since, 1940, however, the gift has of necessity had to take some other form.

The Boys’ Club provides recreation for members of the B.B. and Cadets under the supervision of Mr and Mrs F Cox, assisted by others.

Our connection with the Rushden and District Sunday School Union dates from 1885, prior to which the school was in affiliation with the Wellingborough Union.  Records prove that both scholars and teachers have given very active support in varied efforts undertaken by the Union.

Delegates have been welcomed many times for Spring and Autumn gatherings and also on special occasions.  We have always had a full representation on the executive and have filled some positions as officers, including four during the past year.

Mr E Claridge, Mr C G Cunnington, Mr J Jaques, Mr W J Lack, the Rev T S Kee (two years), Miss F I Clipson, and the Rev J Renison (now in office) have served as presidents.
