1953 Bazaar

The Bazaar Song
(Sung to the tune of Widdicombe Fair)

Why hold a bazaar during Spring ‘53
All along, down along, out along lee.
To deck our church out for a date ‘55
With delegates from churches and circuits and committee making Conference for our union,
And hoping to find us in trim.
And hoping to find us in trim.

Come along you good people of Old Rushden Town.
All along, down along, out along lee.
Make our sales go up and our stocks come down.
With your money for honey, for sweets and cakes, boots and shoes
And all other goods here for sale.
And all other good here for sale.

The Boss of the show we won’t ask you to guess.
All along, down along, out along lee.
It’s Rene the chieftain, who’s head of the mess.
With bunting and shunting and grunting and cheers and praise and fears.
And all that is needed for zest.
And all that is needed for zest.

Who wants all the money from this jolly spree?
All along, down along, out along lee.
Why old Georgie Eason and Sis Wildman too.
Gordon Bellamy, Den Knight, Fred Noble, Edgar Leeding, Sam Kee, all the leaders.
The lucky contractor as well.
The lucky contractor as well.

You will notice by now that the painters are here
All along, down along, out along lee.
To brighten our Church up from floor to tier.
So dig deep in your pockets for copper and silver and paper with cheer
For paint as you know is so dear.
For paint as you know is so dear.

Red, white and blue has this year been our theme.
All along, down along, out along lee.
And all of our thanks must be given to the team.
With Mr. Tuckey, Mr. Linnell, Stall holders, Stand-watchers, lookers-on, willing helpers
And others that never were seen.
And others that never were seen.

Our primary children have helped with us too.
All along, down along, out along lee.
As pedlars they’ve sold an assortment to you
Dressed as nurses, and gypsies and beggars and balloons and flower girls
And even the Queen of Hearts
They’ve all played their separate parts.

We must thank all our artists for coming along
All along, down along, out along lee.
For treating us all with their words and with song.
With Mrs. Gomm, Kath Dent, Mrs. Mackness, Miss Lamb, Four stooges and Syd
They’ve all done their best we are sure.
They’ve all done their best we are sure.

And who shall clear up all themes that we leave.
All along, down along, out along lee.
George Linger will cope with this task in great style
With his wife, the Rolphs, the Fosters, the Boyces, Forced Labour, Big guns
And anyone else who is near.
And anyone else who is near.

This brings to an end our song to you.
All along, down along, out along lee.
And may we remind you the auction is due.
From Jean Hardwick, Pam Bettles, Sam Kee, Tom Burke, all the artists
And all of the other folk who
Have given their services too.
