Our Minister's Induction Service
The Church at Highfield had waited eagerly for Saturday, November 20th for the Induction Service of the Rev. W. J. Weaver to the Pastorate here—and we were not disappointed for the joy and happiness and blessings that were experienced exceeded all expectations. Only one thing marred this day, the absence of the Rev. D. H. Hicks who was unable to attend because of illness, the Rev. E. B. Grant, Association Pastor, deputised for the Area Superintendent and led the Act of Induction. It was a great privilege to have the President of the Baptist Union, the Rev. Dr. G. Henton Davies to preach the sermon; consider" and "attend" were the two words he expounded. Following the Tea, the Rev. W. R. Martin welcomed visitors from far and near but it was a special joy to have with us students and staff from Regents Park College and members of New Road Baptist Church Oxford.
Here was a day of great blessing to the Church—but we are convinced that it is just the first of many occasions after which we shall say "this was the Lord's doing and it is marvellous in our eyes".
Congratulations
It was an honour for our Youth Club Leaders, Stuart and Ellen Godfrey to be invited to attend the opening of the completion of Hereward Wake House, the Headquarters and Training centre of the Northamptonshire Association of Youth Clubs, by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother on Wednesday November 10th. The Queen Mother was welcomed by Civic dignitaries and after unveiling a plaque she toured the building, visiting the rooms and speaking with the youth club leaders.
Gift and Toy Service
This is planned for Sunday morning December 5th, when the children are invited to bring gifts of toys which will be sent to the London City Mission or groceries which can be given to the older friends of the Church at Christmas time. The boys and girls, and young people are taking part in the service which will be led by our minister.
Carol Singing
It is hoped to go Carol Singing in the neighbourhood of the Church on Wednesday 22nd. We trust that a good company will gather on this occasion and we plan to meet together, after singing, for refreshments in the School Room.
The New Organ
As most friends will know, the Church has purchased a "new" second hand electric organ which, we trust will enhance our worship. The instrument which is five years old has been tuned and overhauled and is now in good condition. The cost when new was £560, and we paid £185 for it which the tuner said was quite a bargain. We are hoping to raise the money by several efforts in the new year; if you have any ideas for an interesting and fund raising evening please let us know.
Thank you
The Church is indeed most grateful to all those who worked and gave at the Gift Day and Autumn Fayre. The record total of £240 was raised for our Church and Building Funds.
"Name the Doll" Competition
No one guessed the original name of the Doll, "Lavinia" so a draw was made of all names entered, making Mrs. Smith, 19 St. Margaret's Avenue the winner, with the name "Chloe".

Fireside (2nd) Mr. A. Warner; (9th) Mr. Moisey; (16th) P.C. N. W. Causebrook; (23rd) Mr. W. Vincent; (30th) Mr. C. Thomas.
W.P.H. (7th) Christmas Party; this is the only meeting this month and the W.P.H. recommence on January 4th when our minister, the Rev. W. J. Weaver will be the speaker.
