| Wedding—A very pretty wedding was solemnized at St. Mary’s Church, Yelden, on Monday, in the presence of a large congregation, when Miss Charlotte Wagstaff, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wagstaff, of Red House, Yelden, was married to Mr. George Wagstaff, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wagstaff, of Middle Farm, Yelden. Great interest was shown in the event, as both the bridegroom’s and bride’s families are much esteemed in the village, and the bride has always been a great helper in all church work. Chelveston people also showed the same interest, for the bride was for many years a teacher in the school there, and was much loved by her pupils and esteemed by the managers. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. C. Howes Smith, Rector of Yelden. The bride, who was given away by her father, was gowned in a dress of white broche. She wore a tagel hat to match, trimmed with ostrich plume and orange blossom, and carried a sheaf of lilies. She was attend by two bridemaids, Miss Winnie Page (cousin of the bride) and Miss Wagstaff (sister of the bridegroom), who wore pretty dresses of grey silk and cream all over lace, and black tagel hats, underlined with pink and trimmed with tulle. They carried bouquets of roses. The duties of best man were ably carried out by Mr. Fred Dawson, of Overstone. Appropriate hymns were sung by the choir, the organist (Mrs. C. Howes Smith) rendering suitable music. The newly wedded pair left the sacred edifice to the strains of Mendelssohn’s Wedding March. The Yelden school children had thrown rose petals on the path and the Chelveston school children lined the walk. Subsequently to the ceremony a reception was held at the bride’s residence, the guests numbering about 40. During the evening a merry peal was rung on the bells. Mr. and Mrs. Wagstaff were the recipients of numerous and useful presents. |
