Mrs Emma Ekins, of Yelden, Bedfordshire, whose death occurred on Thursday, March 9, belonged to a lacemaking family and worked at her pillow with great skill until she attained the age of 80. She was born at Yelden 86 years ago and lived there practically throughout her life, taking part in the activities of the Methodist cause. Her husband, Mr Joseph Ekins, died 31 years ago.
The funeral took place at Yelden on Saturday, the Rev R Paddick sondcuting the service at the Parish Church, where the hymn “Abide with me” was sung.
Mourners included Mr and Mrs T Ekins, Higham Ferrers (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs A Ekins, Rushden (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs C Pickering, Rushden (son-in-law and daughter), Mrs Ablett, Rushden (daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs C Ekins, Rushden (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs W Ekins, Yelden (son and daughter-in-law), Mr C Croot, Higham Ferrers (son-in-law), Mr and Mrs G Campion, Yelden (brother and sister-in-law), Mrs S A Newell, Rushden (sister), Messrs Percy, Eddie, Sam, Melbourne and Joe Ekins, Messrs Reg and Tom Croot, Higham Ferrers (grandsons), Miss Edith Newell (niece), Mr E Newell, Rushden (nephew), Mr and Mrs C Pickering, Rushden (grandson and granddaughter) Mr and Mrs Corrie Ekins, Rushden (grandson and granddaughter), Mr John Campion, Mr Bert Campion, Yelden (nephews), Mrs Guest, Mrs Chapman and Mrs Skinner (friends).
Messrs Payne, Smith and Benning represented the Yelden Methodist Chapel.
Mrs C Croot, Higham Ferrers (daughter), Mrs B Searle, Suffolk (daughter) and Mr S Ekins, Suffolk (son) were unable to attend.
