Yelden Harvest Festival—Sunday last being the village Feast, harvest thanksgiving services were held in the Church, which had been tastefully decorated for the occasion by Mrs. Howes Smith, Mrs. Pakes, Mrs. Adams, and Mrs. Newham. A large quantity of vegetables and fruit were contributed by the village people, also flowers, many of the latter grown by the children in their school gardens. Both fruits and vegetables were particularly fine. The services during the day, which were all well attended, consisted of two celebrations of the Holy Communion, on at 8.30a.m., the other after Matins. At the evening service there was a very large congregation, and the sermon was preached by the Rector, the Rev. C. Howes Smith, from the text "Seed-time and harvest shall not fail." The collections, which were for Church expenses, amounted to £6 4s. 4d. On Monday evening the fruit and vegetables were sold in the school, the Rector being auctioneer. Besides fruit, Mr. Hawkey contributing a couple of rabbits for sale, Mrs. York a fine hen, and the Rector two fowls. Jam, Honey, and other things were also given. The bidding was very brisk, and the sum realised was £4 12s. 3d., which will be given to the Red Cross Fund.
