Rushden Echo & Argus, 5th March 1948, transcribed by Kay Collins

Legion Man Retires

At a meeting of the Yelden, Melchbourne and District branch of the British Legion, at the St. John’s Arms, Melchbourne, the chairman (the Rev. F. W. Wright, of Yelden) presented Mr. Frederick Benning, of Yelden, with a fountain pen and a cheque from the members upon his retirement as secretary to the branch.

The Chairman spoke of the long services rendered by Mr. Benning—five years as treasurer and seven years as secretary—and Mr. Benning suitably replied.

Mr. Benning is remaining on the committee and is also acting in an advisory capacity on matters relating to the British Legion.
