Thomas Tomes – will 1726

In the Name of God Amen I Thomas Tomes of Bozeat in the County of Northampton Widdower & victualler; being weak in body But blessed be God, in understanding right & sound do make this my last Will & Testament As follows,

Imprimis, I give & bequeath to my Eldest Son William Tomes, all & every one of my Houses and Lands, To him & his Heirs after him: Also to my said Son William I give all my debts & dues whatsoever, as also the Great Bible, the Clock and Jack: He paying all my morgages & debts & giving of me a decent Buryall.

Item I give & bequeath to my Son John Tomes & my Daughter Susanna Tomes all my Moveables whatsoever, to be by them equally divided; only such things as are herein mentioned & are herein otherwise disposed of by me.

Item I leave to my three Children, Mary Bettle, Thomas Tomes & Elizabeth Ladd, five shillings each & to my son in law Isaac Sedgwick one shilling: These four to be paid by my son William Tomes.

Lastly I give & bequeath to my three Grand-children Mary, Anne & Isaac Sedgwick, all the goods in my house, which was their Mothers at her death: to be equally divided amongst them.

This being my last Will & Testament, revokeing of all others, being made ye Third Day of October in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred Twenty and Three: Signed, sealed and declared to be the same, by me, In the presence of
