John Packe – will 1558
of Wollaston


In the year of our Lord 1557 the 7th day of September I John Packe being sick in body but whole in memory make this my last will and testament as follows. First I bequeath my soul to God etc and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Our Lady in Wollaston. I give to the high altar 4d and to the mother church of Peterborough 4. Also I bequeath to the bells 3s 4d. I bequeath to the torches and to the sepulchre lights 12d. Also I bequeath to my son George Pack my best cart and one white forehorse and two kyne and so much corn as shall sowe the hay house land this year and a plough and ploughgears so much as shall pertain to one plough. Also I will to the said George a ___ horse. Also I will to the said George ___ bullock of two years old. Also I give to my son John a ‘ronyd’ horse and one cow and a ‘kauche’ of barley at the peas hovel and also to the said John I will that at the next tilth that he shall have two acres of barley. I will to the said John three ewes and also I bequeath to Edward Hull one quarter of barley. Also I bequeath to Peter Packe two ewes and two strikes of barley. Also I bequeath to the children of Robert Stevynson the which are five to every of them a ewe. I bequeath to Margery Hull one ewe also I bequeath to Sir Richard Decon my ghostly father a flax sheet. I bequeath to John Agotter the son of James Agotter one strike of barley. I bequeath to every of my god children 4 pence. I bequeath to the poor within the town 8 shillings and to the __ that shall come in of the country at the discretion of Margery my wife and John Agotter with other of my children for the behoof of my soul. The residue of my goods unbequeathed I give to Margery my wife whom I make my sole executrix to see my body honestly brought (under) earth my debts paid and my funeral expenses discharged. In witness of this my present testament Sir Richard Dekynne vicar of Wolastonne, John Agotter and James Agotter with others.

Probate granted 5th August 1558 to Margerie relict of the testator.
