John Maxie - will 1571

In the name of god Amen the 19th day of February on the year of our Lord 1571 I John MAXIE of Knotting in the countie of Bedford husbandman beinge sicke with the visitacon of almightie god and of whole and perfect remembrance (god be praised) do make my lasts will and testament as followeth Firsts I bequeathe my soue unto almightie god my maker and Redemr and my body to be buryed within the Churche yard of Knottinge aforesaid Item I give to the reparacion of the church one bussell of lyme Item my will is yt there shall be ij loads of stones layed in the hyqhe waye between my house & the church Item my will is that the legace bequeathed unto Mary MAXIE by William MAXIE her father shalbe performed by this my last will and testament and shall ammount to the some of xviijten [18] pounds of good and lawfull monye of England the wch some of xviijten my will is shalbe delyverd unto her by my executor according to the trewe meaninge of the last will & testament of the said William MAXYE her father Item I give to the said Mary MAXYE three behyves as the[re] be at this present those three which stand next the house iiij platters one sawcer, a morter with a pestell, a brasse potte which is most comonly occupyed in the house ij coffers, a bedsted and a brasse panne Item I give to any of my foure sones one yearlinge calf a pece Item I give to Robert MAXYE my sone one brasse potte which hath a pece out of the syd broken of[f] Item I give to evrye one of my sones children one busshell of barley a pece to be delyverd them out of my next croppe which is to sawe Item I give to George MAXYE fyve lands to sowe pease in Item I give to Richard MAXY my sone in recompence of a horse which he claymeth of yt gyfte of Edmond MAXYE his brother late discseased ij acres of wheat and one acre of tylth the farthest acre of onyons upon lyton furlonge to sowe barleye Item I give to John MAXYE my sone my foure horses my cart & cart geares my Plough & plough geares fyve quarters of barleye & pease there half of them & the rest of the other half my my tylth Item I give to Lawrence MAXYE my sone a tyre of a cart Item I give to Alis WALKER ij busshells of barley Item I give to Thomas HALE my godchyld half one acre of land to sowe pease in Item I give to Anthony BURYE and Ursula PEERE my godchildren iiij d a pece Item my will is that John MAXIE my sone whome I do constitute ordayne & make my whole Executor of this my last will & testament shall see it fully & trewlye executed and performed according to the trew meaninge of the same provided always that the said John MAXYE shall putt in sufficiient sureties for the performance of the legace bequeathed unto Mary MAXYE and mencioned in this my will before the tyme yt this my last will and testament be proved before the ordinance or any other appoynted for that purpose And yf the said John do refuse or is not able to fynd as aforsaid then my will is that the said Marye MAXYE shall be whole Executrix of this my last will & testament The Rest of my goods both moveable & unmoveable not before bequeathed my debts beings payed all the legaces before mencioned fullye & trewlye performed and my body honestlye brought to the ground I give & bequeath to my foure sones John Lawrence Robert & Richard to be equally divided amongste them And the said Lawrence Robert & Richard shalbe supervisors of this my last will and testament to se it fullye executed according to the trewe meaning of the same These beinge witnesses
