Richard Lambe – will 1596
of Calcotte alias Caldecotte


10th July 1596, I Richard Lambe the elder of Calcotte alias Caldecotte in the county of Northampton and of the diocese of Peterborough husbandman being sick in body yet in perfect memory make my last will as follows. First I commend my soul to God etc. and my body to be buried in the church yard of Chelveston and Caldecotte aforesaid near to the body of Elizabeth my daughter late deceased. I give to my wife Frauncis Lamb and my eldest son John Lamb all thy my farm during the years which are yet to come ___ in the lease thereof to be occupied to their uses __tlye towards the education of my children and paying their stocks as follows. I give to my son Richard Lambe ten good sheep to be delivered to the said Richarde to his use at Michaelmas next at the discretion of my supervisors. And I will that my executors shall dress and sow the land in Chelston fields which I have conveyed to the said Richarde and his heirs by surrender the first year after the land shall come into his hands. I give to my son Roman Lambe the sum of 40 pounds to be paid to the said Roman when he shall aspire to the age of one and twenty years. I give to my son Nicholas Lamb the sum of 30 pounds to be paid at such time as he shall come to the age of 21. I give to Elenor Lamb my daughter the sum of 30 pounds to be paid when she is 18 or else at the day of her marriage which shall first come. I give to Prudence Lamb my daughter the sum of 30 pounds to be paid at the age of 18 or else at her day of marriage which shall first come. I will that if any my aforesaid children die before they come to the age limited and appointed for them to receive the legacies to them so dying unbequeathed then my children surviving shall have the said portion equally divided amongst them for the augmenting of their stocks. I will that my brother Nicholas Lamb shall have sufficient meat, drink, lodging and apparel found unto him during his natural life at the charge of my executors conditionally that they do and shall enjoy the lands goods and chattels of the said Nicholas is as ample large and beneficial manner as I myself have used had and enjoyed the same. I give to the poor of the town 10 shillings. I give to the repair of the church five shillings. I give to Mr Viccars our minister for preaching a funeral sermon at the burial of my daughter Elizabeth and another funeral sermon at my own burial and making my will and inventory 10 shillings. I make and ordain executors of this my last will Frauncis Lambe my wife and John Lamb my eldest son, and John Rowe and my nephew Richarde Lamb supervisors of the same, they to have for their pains taking in that behalf each of the five shillings. In witness whereof I have put my hand and seal the day and year above written. Signed Richard Lamb. Sealed and delivered in the presence of John Viccars, Robert Eykinds, William Lamb and William Cooke.
