Thomas Church – will 1658

In the name of God everlasting
Amen. I Thomas Church of Wimmington in the Countie of Bedford Yeoman being sicke in
body But in perfect memory doe make this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme followeing
First I render up my soule which is immortall unto God my creator who gave itt me, and my body to
the Earth to be buried, And as for my Temporall and personall Estate which God hath given me I shall give
and dispose of itt in manner and forme as followeth First I give and bequeath to my daughter Anne the
Sum[m]e of Eightie and Five Pounds of Lawfull English moneye Also I give to my daughter Mary the
Sum[m]e of Sixty and five Pounds of like Lawfull English moneye Also I give to my daughter Jane the Sum[m]e
of Fifty and Five Pounds of like Lawfull English moneye to be paid to her att the full age of Eighteene
yeares And my aforesayd daughters Anne and Mary to be paid to them their full porc[i]one att the age of Twenty
Also I give and bequeath to my Sonne Thomas The sum[m]e of One Hundred and Fifty Five Pounds
of Lawfull English moneye to be payd in forme followeing (That is to say) One Moyetie of the said
Hundred and Fifty Five pounds within Three months after my decease And the other Moyetie
within Three months after the day appointed for the first payment Also itt is my Will that if any
of my said Children should dye before the tyme appointed for the payment of their said Porc[i]one That then
the portion of the party deceased shalbe Equally devided amongst or betweene my Surviveing children
Also I give to my daughter Alice the sum[m]e of Twenty shillings, Likewise I give to my grand-
child Mary Mackenie the sum[m]e of Five Pounds both which sum[m]e shalbe payed within One yeare
after my decease Lastly I give and bqueath unto my son John whom I nominate sole Executor
of this my Last Will and Testament all my personall and Temporall Estate goods household
stuffe Cattell and Chattlles Creditts whatsoever Hee payeing the above menconed portions to
my other children according to my intent and meaneing herein Expressed And my Lawfull debtes
Hee also is to paye whatsoever Sealed with my seale dated the Thirtieth day of August In the yeare
of our Lord God One Thousand Sixe hundred Fiftie and Eight / 1658/ In Wittnes Whereof I
have hereunto sett my hand:/ The marke of Thomas Church / Signed and Sealed in the p[re]sence of
Richard Newcome, John Anderson:/


This Will was proved att London before the Judges for probate of Wills and granting Administrac[i]on
Lawfully authorised The Fifteenth day of November in ye yeare of our Lord God One Thousand Sixe
Hundred Fiftie & Eight By the Oath of John Church the sonne and sole Executor named in the said
Will To whom Administrac[i]on of All and Singular ye goodes ch[att]ells and debts of the said dec[eas]ed was Comitted
Hee being first by Comission Sworne truely to Administer the Same.
