Richard Aboren – will
yeoman of Chelveston


This is the last will and testament of Richard Aboren, yeoman, made the 23rd of March 1567. I give to John Aboren my son three score sheep at the discretion of the overseers. To the said John four horses, four kyne, three bullocks of two years old a piece at the discretion of the overseers, twenty acres of barley and twenty acres of peas and one acre of wheat and the meadows belonging to the overhouse for one year. To the said John the best cart, a plough and plough gears and cart gears and one hovel at the discretion of the overseers. I give to John my son the debt that Mr Gallant dwelling in the Isle of Ely which is the sum of 11 pounds 17 shillings. I give to Alice my daughter 40 pounds to be paid in money or ware at the discretion of the overseers. I give to Mary my daughter 40 pounds to be paid in money or ware. I give to Katheryn my daughter 30 pounds to be paid in money or ware. I will and bequeath that these my three daughters shall receive their parts at the day of marriage. I give to Katheryn my wife all my household stuff. I give to my daughter Bwlton** 5 pounds. I give to my god daughter Ann Bwlton a yearling calf and a sheep and to every one of my daughter Bwlton’s children a sheep each. And to my son Anthonie’s children a sheep each. I give to my shepherd a sheep. I give to John Rowse a lamb. To Amy Weden a lamb. I give and bequeath to the church of “Chelson a calcate”* in money 13s 4d. I give to Katheryne my wife and to Lawrence my son and to Thomas my son all the residue of my goods unbequeathed by even portions whom I do make my executors of this my last will my debts paid and my will performed. I will that if Lawrence or Thomas cannot agree with their mother or doe marry that they shall have their parts and go away. I will that if any of my children do die before they be married then that their goods shall be divided among the rest of the children by even portions. I make my overseer to the comfort of my wife and my children Anthony Aboren and Richard Aboren and Henry Bowlton to see my will performed unto whom I bequeath for their pains taking to every one of them a noble each. In the presence of me John Wisdome priest, Richard Wedon, Henry Shetle***, John Rase with others. I do bequeath to my sister Agnes Gilbard at Barnwell 20 shillings.
